Who can see what
Every piece of your DatsPro page carries its own setting for who can see it — anyone, your connections, or only you — and where two settings disagree, the narrower one wins.
There is no single privacy switch on DatsPro, and that is deliberate. Instead there is a ladder of separate controls: your whole account, each section of your page, each work sample inside a section, and each item inside a work sample. Every one of them can say public, connections, or private.
The rule that makes the ladder predictable is that the narrowest setting wins. A work sample marked connections stays connections-only even when the section holding it is public. Setting something wider never overrides something narrower further down — which means you can open a whole section without worrying that you have accidentally exposed the one thing inside it you wanted kept back.
That has a consequence worth knowing before it puzzles you: making a section public may appear to do nothing. If a stranger still cannot see what is inside, something narrower is winning — usually the work sample's own setting. See Visibility & privacy for where each badge lives, and Preview your page as other people see it to check what a stranger or a connection sees.
An item is the one layer that can be left unset. An unset item simply follows whatever its work sample says, so you only have to make a decision for the items you actually want to treat differently.
⚠️ One vocabulary difference will show up if you look closely. On a section, the most private level is displayed as Private and means only you. On a group site the word private means members only, because a group is owned collectively by the people in it — a member is a part-owner, not a visitor.
