Groups

A group is a shared space you join by its tags — and its name is built from the address of whoever made it plus those tags.

This one catches people out, so it is worth seeing before you go looking. A group is not called Michigan Product Leaders. It is called something like kai-chen#product#michigan#leaders — the creator's username, then each of its tags, joined by #. That is why you search for groups by tag rather than by name. Groups sit in the Professional Groups section of your page, next to your connections.

How to

  • Find a group and join itYou want to be part of a shared space — a team, a professional association, a community in your field.
  • Leave a groupYou have joined something you no longer want on your page.

What it can do

  • Search for groups by their tags
  • See how many members a group has, its tags and its description before joining
  • Join a public group instantly
  • Ask to join a semi-private group, and see that your request is waiting
  • Leave a group you have joined
  • As an owner or moderator, drag a folder from your computer onto one of the group's resources or folders, and it arrives as a folder with its files inside

Worth knowing

⚠️ Request sent is not membership. On a semi-private group nothing else happens until the group lets you in — there is no Leave button to press, because there is nothing yet to leave.

Who can see it

Groups carry their own setting, shown as a badge on each one in the list: Public anyone can join on the spot, Semi-Private you must be let in. Your own Professional Groups section is always private — only you see the list of groups you are in. See Who can see what and The sections of your page.
